Typical Wednesday night. Nice restaurant to finish the day
Aug 27, 2015  M H via
Family of five adults. Late dinner (8:00 PM). Place was active but not busy. Comfortable setting. Menu was good. Lots of unique burgers (not entirely your standard fare). Pizzas (savory). Salads (nice options). Appetizers (variety). Main dishes (very native to the Black Hills). Our group had wings, hummus flat bread, steak tips, margarita pizza and crunchy sweet potato salad. Didn't get to look at the kids menu. All were pleased with portion and taste. Beers were cold and also provided variety. Michelle was a good waitress. Low end of the prices was $8.99. Would recommend for a family. Didn't get to see kids menu.

A great break from burgers

We spent six days in Custer State Park and one evening just needed something that wasn't beef based. Came here on recommendation of a friend and really enjoyed it. First off, this restaurant is lovely inside, with a casual but upscale vibe. Service was incredibly attentive. My husband loved the local brew. I got over my aversion to the fact so many choices were the amazing animals we saw everywhere. (Bison, elk, etc) and had the elk calvados, which were very good. We ordered nachos as an appetizer and they were great. The only complaint was that we simply had way too much food. The bar area (a separate room) had lots of tvs with sports on and seemed very lively. That part was even open later on, as drove past after visiting Rushmore.

A little pricy but Great Salads

We were not that hungry & had been eating too many burgers to want another one when we stopped in here. The entrees started at $18 & up. They did have some really interesting & delicious salads. I got the Goat Cheese one & it was great. My husband had the Buffalo Chile & it was a large, hearty serving

New Friends

We came back into Custer from the monuments right about peak dinnertime. Every restaurant was crowded, with over an hour wait. We got in line at the Buglin' Bull, where the manager made it a point to stay close and talk with everyone. Before long, he had us all talking to one another, and because of that, we shared a table with a lovely family. We made new friends, had a shorter wait, and it made for a great evening. The food was really good, and the service was exceptionally far. We had a wonderful time! Highly recommend.

Nice rooftop bar

We ate here two nights in a row so we could sit outside in the upper deck. Both nights there was a huge waiting line to eat downstairs but we were able to go right upstairs. They had a good selection on the menu.

Quite a nice atmosphere here if you like the "old bar" style. We had a great "huge" hamburger and garlic fries. The beer was great too with a variety of choices. Only wish we had come here again the second night we were in town.

We sat up on the balcony. You don't get as many menu choices but the food was still really good. They even have their own beer which was pretty good as well. Our server was awesome and shared a lot of info about the town. Very friendly and the view is pretty neat.

Good food, atmosphere, bartenders and wait staff!

Fun place to eat, drink and let loose! Had dinner on the patio deck and enjoyed the view of Main Street Custer during Bike Week. Chicken wings were some of the best I've had! The rest of my party enjoyed their meals albeit it appetizer type fare.

Chef extraordinaire
Aug 16, 2015  Connie W via
I ate there 3 nights in a row. The first night was on the upper deck overlooking the motorcycle filled street below. A band played all of our favorite songs so we sang and danced along. Someone had a birthday so cold local, draught beer and birthday cake was our dinner the first night. The second night was salmon which was prepared perfectly with seasonal vegetables. The 3rd night dinner was pan seared walleye which was superb. That chef really knew what he was doing! We were seated promptly and our dinner arrived quickly and hot.

Had a real pleasant experience here. The server was quite attentive and did a wonderful job. The prices were very reasonable and the food was pretty good. The atmosphere is a bar/hunting lodge. It is ok for kids and when we went my 6 year old was on the edge of a melt down which was quelled by the tv at our table and a couple episodes of Sponge Bob, so major cheers for that! I would recommend.

Atmosphere, food and service were fantastic.

I like the decor and the feel of the place. The food has always been good and the servers are helpful and not a long wait for the food or beverages. Busy place but worth the stop

We had drinks here a couple times while waiting for our dinner reservation down the block. We loved the roof terrace! What a fun way to watch all the action on Main Street Custer. Loved their cocktail and beer selections too. Next time we'll have to try the food as well.

Loved the food!Service was a bit on the slow side - reminded me of eating in Europe. But overall very friendly. The menu does change if you want to eat on the roof top - and it also opens later. So keep that in mind

Order the special, by all means.

I ordered the prime rib with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. Excellent piece of meat. Possibly the best mashed potatoes in South Dakota! I intend to return and order what ever the waiter reccomends, bound to be a hit. Clean, convenient downtown location, friendly and knowledgable staff, 2 bar areas and a great menu.

Excellent Restaurant

Great restaurant. The service was exceptional from our young waiter. Steak was cooked to perfection. Others enjoyed the Buffalo burgers a first for most. Enjoy a walk downtown after because restaurant is centrally located downtown Custer.

What a wonderful restaurant! Quite possibly the best buffalo burger I've ever had in my life. My son had a build your own pizza that he also raved about. You have to order the onion rings

Excellent Food!!

A great restaurant with great food. If you like beer try the micro brews they are tasty also. Get there early and be patient the place is busy and you might wait a few minutes for a table, but it is worth it.

Excellent bison steak!
Aug 03, 2015  Erin S via
The atmosphere in this place is great. We were seated in the loft and had a TV at our booth. Which was great being we had been on the road for a few days and the teens were jonesing. The bison tenderloin was amazing. You could cut it with a fork and it melted in your mouth. The only complaint was that the kitchen got carried away with the balsamic glaze and the risotto was mushy. My husband's beef tenderloin was good as well and there wasn't as much glaze. My son's bison burger was great as well. My daughter had a chicken Ceasars salad. It was a chicken ceasar salad, nothing special. All of the meals were served with fresh buns that were great. Our server was friendly and efficient. Over all a great place to eat. I'd return for that bison steak in a heartbeat.

Exotic at a resonable price

The Buglin’ Bull is much more than one would expect in a small, somewhat remote, village like Custer. Nonetheless, the food and service are excellent. The menu offers such out-of-the-ordinary fare as Elk, Buffalo, etc. Both the food and presentation are very “upscale”, but at a reasonable price. The quality of the food is excellent and preparation is just right. The staff are friendly, courteous, and very efficient. We highly recommend the Buglin’ Bull to anyone visiting the Mount Rushmore area.

Good food, good beer and friendly staff. The burgers were very good. Thoroughly enjoyed our two visits there.

Foodie - or just plain hungry - all will be thrilled! (Nice beer selection, too)
Jul 31, 2015  Wizard0fWaz via
We had bison (buffalo) served 5 ways - and all 5 were delicious. The menu had lots to offer (besides buffalo!) - and included some unique twists on traditional food (like the pheasant flat bread pizza). Nice location, friendly and efficient waitstaff, cold and delightful flights of beer - and amazing food!

Great Food and Great Service

Great food and fast service. We stopped in for an evening meal on Sunday and Hallie was our server. She was attentive and personable. My wife loved the Pineapple Salmon and I had the Tatanka Tenderloin. Both were outstanding. It was a great way to wrap up the 30th Custer High School Reunion for the Class of 85. Looking forward to going back

We went back recently with a small group because one of the previous times we had been with a large group and wanted to enjoy the place without all the hubbub. Our waitress was terrific, the staff so friendly, the place was clean, and the menu fresh and varied -- not just burgers, fries and wings. The appetizers were a lot of fun, and we ended up spending nearly an hour just savoring our meal and socializing. We will be back.

Super cool grill in the heart of Custer. Menu was very diverse, owner was extremy accommodating and our server Mila (I think)... :) was attentive to our every need. Our teen boys ate a variety of foods while hubby and I enjoyed salads, padta, steak and wine. Great sit down place, super casual and great location.

Loved it!

This was recommended to us by the RV park we were staying in and it was a great choice. There are two sections to this property, one like a sports bar and one a restaurant. We sat in the restaurant. The food was excellent and service was great. Both my wife and I had the walleye and I would definitely recommend it. Our grandson really enjoyed his steak as well. If this restaurant is only #16 on TripAdvisor there must be some wonderful choices of where to eat.

We visited around 8pm on a warm July evening and found a front deck table immediately available on the top floor. Nice place to sit and have a couple very good local microbrews with dinner. We started with the buffalo stuffed mushrooms which were tasty. My wife had the goat cheese salad and I had a caesar each with salmon added. The salmon was nicely prepared (not

We had a party of 8, and they were very quick to accommodate us. The sweet potato walleye was good and my husband enjoyed his buffalo filet. The wine flights were fun to add to your meal for a decent price. Happy to stumble upon this restaurant on trip advisor!
